Best in the Business: We Put the “SPECIAL” In NAU Urology Specialists

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to the Armor Men’s Health Hour with Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee.

Dr. Mistry:

Hello and welcome to the Armor Men’s Health Hour. I’m Dr. Mistry, your host, welcoming you to a wonderful show on men’s health.

Donna Lee:

On penis problems!

Dr. Mistry:

That wonderful voice is my cohost and my office manager here at the NAU Urology Specialists, that is the practice that brings you this show and is the practice that I started in 2007, Donna Lee. Welcome.

Donna Lee:

Hello everybody. Happy day!

Dr. Mistry:

You know, I couldn’t do this show without you.

Donna Lee:

You literally cannot do the show without me.

Dr. Mistry:

I actually literally can’t do it. You have like the key to the office, you know all the people here, you know how to start the thing. I am a useless cog.

Donna Lee:

That’s right. You just show up and be pretty. And then GTFO.

Dr. Mistry:

Sometimes I won’t even be in the episode or on the radio, but you’re always there.

Donna Lee:

That’s called job security.

Dr. Mistry:

That’s right.

Donna Lee:

I set that up.

Dr. Mistry:

Please don’t get the COVID…again. Because that would be detrimental to the whole practice. I am a board certified urologist. My name is Dr. Mistry, M-I-S-T-R-Y. That is my real name. We have a urology practice that’s all over town, and incredibly accessible and open to seeing you. Very COVID safe, we clean everything down, lots of office visits through the internet and through phone conversations, as long as that’s available. But it’s something that we did even before that, because we respect your time and want to make things best for you. Donna Lee, why don’t you tell people about our practice and how to get ahold of us?

Donna Lee:

You know, when Covid hit the first time we had offices calling us, trying to figure out how to do telemedicine appointments over the phone, and we had been doing them for six months, so we had it down. If you want to telemedicine, call us through the week at (512) 238-0762. If you want to see Dr. Mistry’s smiling handsome face, he’ll also do a doxy.me, which is like a Zoom. So we can certainly take care of your needs over the internet. Our website is armormenshealth.com. And then send us some questions. We love your questions! So armormenshealth@gmail.com, or you can also just send the question as an inquiry through the website, armormenshealth.com.

Dr. Mistry:

What’s special about our practice is that…

Donna Lee:

Me?

Dr. Mistry:

…yes, that really helps. We really have kind of a different approach. It’s kind of the approach that I would want to have, you know, when I go to the doctor, I want somebody that has a comprehensive understanding of what’s going on with me. Recently this week, I had a patient who came in for fertility issues and really asking about their history and their past really came about that they had lots of exposures to things that would affect their fertility, even later in the future, you know, later in time. Lots of exposure to radiation, to paint products, things of that nature that could affect them. That doesn’t stop there. Several weeks ago, we had a patient that came and moved from down South with horrible urinary complaints, and that really matched our knowledge that interstitial cystitis or inflammatory bladder conditions can follow people when they move from North to South. And so that was, you know, really getting more involved with a patient’s history, gave us such more insight into what could be affecting them.

Donna Lee:

You mean North to South like in the country or in the city?

Dr. Mistry:

Well, in the country.

Donna Lee:

Oh, I didn’t know if you meant North Austin or South Austin.

Dr. Mistry:

Oh, but moving North to South Austin also causes issues. You know what I’m saying? You know how in South Austin, they don’t like to go above the river.

Donna Lee:

That’s right. And they got the homeless problem down there.

Dr. Mistry:

It’s okay. We still love you South Austin. And if you’re close to our office down there on South Congress…

Donna Lee:

Just pop in and ask for Dr. Mistry, who’s in the Round Rock location.

Dr. Mistry:

That’s right. Being part of our practice really gives you incredible access to not only top notch, very aggressive, urologic care, but also nutrition services, physical therapy, sleep apnea, sex therapy, and really a group of people that are willing to go that extra mile to kind of take care of you. And, you know, I was reminded of that this week.

Donna Lee:

How so?

Dr. Mistry:

You know, we get patients that listen to us on the show.

Donna Lee:

Right?

Dr. Mistry:

We have four amazing doctors and four amazing mid level providers and all these other people. And he listened to this show and he came to see us. But then he emailed us and said that, “I didn’t get exactly what I wanted from your care.” And that was really powerful to me. I spent a lot of time really trying to dig about what really that patient really wanted. And I could see the problem. The problem was they came to us for concerns about low testosterone, but really what they had were concerns about severe erectile dysfunction, enlarged prostate. And so that’s really important, you know. If you’re not clear on what really the problem that’s affecting you, that you’re trying to see a doctor for, not me, not any of my partners or any of the providers going to be able to really read your mind. So if you come to us and you say, “Well, I’m really concerned about my testosterone number. I’m really concerned about my energy and my muscle mass.” It may occur to us that you’re not as, it’s not as important to you what your urinary issues are and your erectile issues are. But clearly this patient who emailed us let us know that it’s really the erections and the enlarged prostate. Now the truth is, is that I can treat those two things all day, right? I mean, we have eight different treatments for BPH. We have multiple treatments for ED. We have Chris Yang in our practice who has a specialty, he spent an entire year doing nothing but advanced erectile dysfunction treatment. If you can find a place that has a better treatment algorithm for your erectile dysfunction, then set it up against ours because we do a wonderful job for you. You know, trying to, trying to communicate whether it be verbally or written, what you’re really looking for from your doctor–I think that it’s such a powerful message to our listeners and to our patients. Write it down, email us, and let me know be clear what you want now, maybe you don’t know. Maybe you have to see us a few times, you know, in kind of a, you know, a nebulous way to really get to where you want to be.

Donna Lee:

Well that’s a good point, because most people probably think they just go in that one time to a specialist and getting everything fixed.

Dr. Mistry:

Totally. And I can see that, and I can see how people would be confused by that. I, you know, like you think you’re going to a specialist, but I know my thing really well. So that’s everything that I know. Like, I know urology really, really well. So when you come to see me, I’m going to really address your, what we call chief complaint, your chief complaint initially, because that’s what we think you came to see us for. If you don’t feel from us or from someone else that you got the right treatment the first swing out, give that person a second chance, please give a second chance. And we would love to take somebody else’s second chance. So we would love their second opinion. So if you weren’t treated right somewhere, we’d love to take care of you when it comes to your elevated PSA, low testosterone. We don’t believe in low T clinics. We believe in

Donna Lee:

High T clinics!

Dr. Mistry:

That’s right.

Donna Lee:

Not that you’re going to speak higher…High T clinics.

Dr. Mistry:

It’s called a Honda dealership, not a “No Honda dealership,” right?

Donna Lee:

It’s true.

Dr. Mistry:

We’re here to, we provide something which is, which is normal testosterone levels, you know, an assurance of great prostate cancer and enlarged prostate treatment. And this week we had a number of patients that came to us for second opinion for high PSA.

Donna Lee:

I wonder where they came from?

Dr. Mistry:

That’s right. If you see the big group in town, you know, these, oftentimes you’ll be in the waiting room for a couple of hours, you’ll feel kind of like a number, and you may not feel like you’re getting kind of the treatment that you need to get. If you haven’t been offered a prostate MRI or a targeted biopsy, if you have a high PSA, if you haven’t been offered exceptional advanced genetic testing, like the 4k PKO study or additional kinds of evaluation than, you know, give us a shot to deal with your medicine.

Donna Lee:

Right. You know, I talked to two patients relatively recently from another group that won’t be named, but both of those patients said that their urologist hadn’t even asked them about their diet and lifestyle, and so they were specifically wanting more information about our holistic approach to urology.

Dr. Mistry:

Such a wonderful point. All of our literature, all of our urologic literature, even up to just this week is about how diet, exercise, nutrition, supplements affect urologic conditions.

Donna Lee:

Right?

Dr. Mistry:

We have a whole body of literature on how obstructive sleep apnea, OSA, affects nighttime urinary frequency. Over and over again, half of our conferences are filled with how lifestyle affects urologic conditions. And if you have a urologic condition and your urologist isn’t addressing your lifestyle, they’re clearly ignoring half of the literature. Now, I’m not going to tell you that it’s their fault. It’s hard and expensive for us to hire a nutritionist. It’s hard and expensive for us to have obstructive sleep apnea. But I need to sleep at night, not just because I’m getting up to pee, but because I want to make sure that I’m doing a good job for you. And so to do a good job for you, I want to make sure if you come to me with erectile dysfunction. I can do it all. I’m going to treat your testosterone. I’m going to address you neurologically. I’m going to address your lipids and your high blood pressure. I’m going to make sure that you have the appropriate psychological counseling with a sex therapist, and we’re going to make sure you get to that finish line. And if you need something like an inflatable penile prosthesis, guess what? We have a world expert recognized expert in that condition. So whether it’s your erections or your urinary issues, or your hormones, or kidney stones, or virtually anything that deals with men’s health issues, we’re here to help take care of you.

Donna Lee:

That’s right. Man, I thought we were going to run out of things to talk about this segment. You’re full knowledge over there.

Dr. Mistry:

I’m full of something!

Donna Lee:

You can reach us during the week at (512) 238-0762. Send us your questions to armormenshealth@gmail.com, or you can go to our website and send an inquiry there as well after you just can’t get over the fact of how cute we are on the website, armormenshealth.com. Thanks Dr. Mistry!
